16M LCN Processor Board

The K4LCN-16 (51403519-160) is the latest version of the LCN processor board using the Motorola 68040 processor, with 16 MW of non-expandable memory. This board, like the K2LCN preceding it, includes the LCN interface on the board. With LCN Release 500, the K4xxx processor can now be used. Both the K2 and K4 processor runs about three times faster than the K2 processor. The K4 combines two previously separate boards, the Kernel (processor) and the LCNI functions..

All new K4LCN boards currently sold by Honeywell such as the K4LCN-16 51403519-160 LCN Processor have 16 MW of non-expandable memory on the board. For many LCN node applications, much of this memory is not used. For example, the NIM does not use more than 4 MW of memory, and the Universal Station does not use more than 8 MW.

The K4LCN series of processor card is also capable of generating and receiving digital clock synchronization data frames transmitted at the LCN standard 5 MHz rate.

Processor Compatibility:

The minimum memory capacity for the node processor is three megawords to support R500 software. A K4LCN (68040) node processor is highly recommended if your UCN is currently heavily loaded or if a High Performance Process Manager device is connected. The K4LCN-4 node processor can be used in any node with one exception, a Universal Station running engineer personality requires 8MW.

The K4xxx processor board is now in its 3rd generation. The 1st and 2nd generation K4 boards have replaceable memory and can be upgraded to a higher memory capacity. The one caution is that the memory used on one generation of K4 processors cannot be used on the other generation of K4 processors.
