16M LCN Processor Board

K4LCN16 (51403519-160) LCN Processor Board

The K4LCN16 (51403519-160) is the latest version of the LCN processor board, featuring the Motorola 68040 processor and 16 MW of non-expandable memory. Like its predecessor, the K2LCN, this board includes an integrated LCN interface.

With LCN Release 500, the K4xxx processor is now supported. Both the K2 and K4 processors operate at approximately three times the speed of the K2 processor. Additionally, the K4LCN board consolidates two previously separate components: the Kernel (processor) and LCNI functions.

Memory and Usage

All of the most recent?K4LCN boards sold by Honeywell, including the K4LCN-16 (51403519-160), come with 16 MW of non-expandable memory. However, many LCN node applications do not require the full memory capacity. For instance:

  • The NIM (Network Interface Module) uses no more than 4 MW.
  • The Universal Station requires no more than 8 MW.

Digital Clock Synchronization

The K4LCN processor series can generate and receive digital clock synchronization data frames, transmitted at the LCN standard rate of 5 MHz.

Processor Compatibility

To support R500 software, the minimum memory capacity required for the node processor is 3 MW. A K4LCN (68040) processor is highly recommended if your UCN is heavily loaded or if it includes a High-Performance Process Manager device.

The K4LCN-4 processor can be used in any node except a Universal Station running the Engineer personality, which requires 8 MW.

K4xxx Processor Generations

The K4xxx processor board is now in its third generation. The first- and second-generation K4 boards had replaceable memory, allowing upgrades to higher memory capacities. However, memory modules from different K4 generations are not interchangeable.
